PROGRAM: STEADFAST

Fast pace. Steady presence.

The inner work of executive leadership.

The pace of executive life can be relentless. However, what you can control is how you respond. Are you setting your response or is the pace setting it for you?

Steadfast develops inner steadiness: a steady base from which you can be poised, discerning and ready for what lies ahead. It is core to all of my work, and also available as a standalone program for leaders ready to develop it directly.

This is the inner work of executive leadership.

Fast pace. Steady presence.

THE CHALLENGE

Is the pace setting the terms?

Even the most capable senior executives can find themselves being carried by a pace they did not choose, responding to whatever pull is strongest.

The natural response is reactive, defaulting to what worked last time, or a surface level confidence that hides the self-doubt bubbling below.

For every leader, the context is different, but the pressures are often remarkably similar:

  • Moving fast. The organisation has outgrown the systems holding it together, and the strain comes out as tension and conflict.

  • Rising fast. You are in a bigger role and no longer the expert in the room, but still have to carry credibility and impact.

  • Held fast. Is the sheer pace making it almost impossible to make a move or are you having to lead through a holding pattern, held back by factors out of your control.

The challenge is to be discerning when nothing is certain, and to be guided by what you stand for rather than by just what is in front of you.

THE PROGRAM

Develop the inner steadiness to respond intentionally, based on insight, not by instinct alone.

When everything is moving, Steadfast helps you find steady ground from which to lead, through understanding your core self, your role, the terrain and how you fit in that landscape.

Integral to the Steadfast approach is an ongoing quarterly practice: Attune, Align and Adapt.

You attune to what is really going on, in you and around you. You align to who you are here to be. You adapt by listening, reading the context, and calibrating your response to it.

That steady practice is what makes discernment possible. When the ground beneath you shifts you’re not thrown, and when the moment calls for speed you move because you choose to, not because the pace decided for you.

CORE QUARTERLY PRACTICE

THE SHIFT

From default to discerning

From default, reflexive reactions to choosing what actually deserves your attention and how you respond.

However, discernment isn’t necessarily about slowing down. It’s about consciously being deliberate in your response. Sometimes quickly. Sometimes more slowly. And sometimes, not at all.

The compound effect is a paradox worth holding: inner steadiness creates outer readiness.

Steady not still.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Leaders operating at executive level, and those on their way to it.

Some are stepping up and finding the ground less stable than it looked from below. Others are already there, doing the job well, and want mastery of a pace that will not slow down.

Both require the inner steadiness to be ready for what lies ahead.

Steadfast can be completed as a precursor to my other programs or as a standalone program helping leaders find the steady grounding needed to succeed in fast-paced executive roles.
